Spain and Portugal open border
Driving between Portugal and Spain without restrictions is now possible for Europeans.
Border reopens for land access
Taking a road trip between Portugal and Spain is now possible for Europeans as border restrictions are lifted for those travelling by road between the two countries. However, all travellers must be in possession of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival. Children aged 2 and under are exempt.
The Spain-Portugal border has been closed since 30th January 2021, and those travelling between the two countries were subject to police checks to confirm essential travel or residency, including EU/Schengen area nationals returning to their home country.
Portugal has its own national classification of high risk areas and travel restrictions, hence travel to Portugal is not based on the EU Traffic Lights map.
